Instructors:
John Logsdon, ESQ, PLS earned his Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering from Duke University in 1974. He began working in surveying in 1983 and received his license in January 1987. He owned and operated a small surveying firm in Wilkes County, NC, until 1991, when he entered law school. By day, Logsdon worked as a real estate paralegal in Durham while attending the evening program at North Carolina Central School of Law. He graduated Magna Cum Laude with a Juris Doctor degree in 1995. After obtaining his law license, Logsdon returned to Wilkes County and joined the McElwee Firm, PLLC. His practice emphasizes residential and commercial real estate transactions and the resolution of factual property disputes. He has substantial litigation experience at both the trial and appellate levels. He represents individuals, developers, and corporate clients in land acquisition, development, and financing, as well as in commercial and business matters. He was appointed to the North Carolina Board of Examiners for Engineers and Surveyors (NCBEES) in 2016.
Gary W. Thompson, PLS. Gary is the Deputy Risk Management Chief, North Carolina Emergency Management/Risk Management and Chief of the North Carolina Geodetic Survey/Risk Management/NC Emergency Management. He has held a professional license as a Professional Land Surveyor (PLS) in North Carolina since 1980. He has served as president of both the North Carolina Society of Surveyors (NCSS) and the National Society of Professional Surveyors (NSPS). Gary is an emeritus member of the North Carolina Board of Examiners for Engineers and Surveyors (NCBEES) and a commission member of the ABET Engineering Technology Accreditation Commission.
