CONTINUING EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS
“Every licensee shall obtain 15 PDH units during the renewal period. Effective as of the 2024 license renewal, for all licensees at least 1 PDH shall be in Ethics or Rules of Professional Conduct. In addition, for Professional Land Surveyors 1 PDH shall be in the Standards of Practice for Land Surveying. If a licensee exceeds the annual requirement in any renewal period, a maximum of 15 PDH units may be carried forward into the subsequent renewal period.” Click Here for Rule 21 NCAC 56 .1703
Reminder! To meet the NCBEES requirements, licensees must complete 1 hour each of Ethics and Standards of Practice annually. To carry over PDHs in these areas to the following year, you must exceed the 15 PDH annual requirement. For example, if a Land Surveyor earns 17 PDHs in a year, with 2 hours each in Ethics and Standards of Practice, you may carry over 1 PDH in Ethics and 1 PDH in Standards of Practice to the next year. When applying carryover hours, claim only new hours, as the system will automatically apply needed carryover hours.
Certified Floodplain Surveyor (CFS) Program
The CFS Program trains and certifies licensed surveyors to accurately map floodplains and submit FEMA-compliant Elevation Certificates and Letters of Map Change. A joint effort of the NC Department of Public Safety and NC Society of Surveyors, the program supports smarter floodplain management and faster FEMA processing.
