Rod Person – Charlotte & Cary

Primary responsibilities include (but not limited to) the following:
A rod person has multiple responsibilities on a survey crew. Their first responsibility is to make sure that the truck is loaded with the necessary equipment and supplies that are needed throughout the day. When at the site a rod person will take on transporting and setting up the instruments and equipment and preparing the job site for survey. They generally are responsible for most of the clearing of brush and trees away from the survey line. As the work begins, it is the responsibility of the rod person to hold the prism pole steady for the surveyor to help determine elevations of different points. He also measures how far different points are from each other, using a tape or electronic equipment, and helps with the various pieces of survey equipment. A rod person may need to be familiar with various pieces of survey equipment. If a supervisor is present at the job site, the rod person can operate the surveying equipment with the supervisor's oversight.

Requirements:

  • High School and/or specialized training from a vocational or technical school.

Primary responsibilities include:
The purpose of the survey internship is to provide an opportunity for the Geomatics student to be exposed to an overview of field and office workflows while developing the student’s professionalism. The student will be exposed to the following topics during the semester:

  • Project research

Survey Technician - Raleigh, NC 

Draper Aden is currently seeking a Surveying Technician to join our Survey Division in Raleigh, North Carolina

Position Summary

This position will be working with a Land Surveyor and assisting in developing survey databases, boundary, topographic surveys, ALTA and construction staking, for engineering design projects and commercial surveying clients.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES

  • Position requires work to be performed in the office as well as the field. 
  • Computer skills involved in the submittal of daily files, downloading of data, preparation/organization of field sketches & digital photographs, completion of daily checklists & timesheets, and vehicle navigation are required. 
  • Candidate will be required to demonstrate strong self-motivational and organizational skills, experience with survey computations and platting as well as field experience. 

QUALIFICATIONS, EXPERIENCE, AND/OR EDUCATION

  • Carlson, AutoCAD Civil 3D, and Trimble Business Center experience preferred. 
  • Experience with survey data collection, GPS receivers, and robotic total stations a requirement. 
  • Associate's degree or higher in surveying technology/geomatics, civil engineering, or related field 
  • registration as an SIT preferred, but not required. 
  • 2+ years of experience in land surveying preferred. 
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office, Google Earth and Trimble Data Transfer a plus. 
  • Must be able to pass a drug screen, background check, and have a satisfactory driving record in accordance with the company's driving (MVR) policy.

Qualifications 

  • Experience with current versions of Carlson, Civil 3D, ESRI/ArcMap, ArcGIS, understanding Trimble data collection, and GPS receivers 
  • Land development experience with physical survey, plot plans and house staking, commercial and residential 
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office- Outlook, Word, Excel, etc.

  • 3+ years of experience 
  • Associates degree (or higher) in surveying technology/Geomatics, civil engineering or related field preferred but not required

Survey Crew Chief - Durham, NC

We are seeking a Crew Chief to join our Geomatics Group in our Durham/RTP office location.   

Qualifications:
  • Five (5) or more years’ experience as a Crew Chief in construction staking and/or surveying preferred
  • Knowledge of TDS Software, Trimble Robotics, GPS equipment
  • CAD experience preferred
  • Must have a valid NC driver’s license
  Duties include, but are not limited to:
  • Must be able to manage and mentor field personnel to ensure that project objectives are met under budget and in a timely manner
  • Demonstrate an ability to prepare proper filed notes and manage field data files in a manner that they can be easily interpreted and cyphered by office support staff. Turns in notes and field files daily
  • Maintain good client relations to foster and perpetuate a long term relationship
