Utility Locator/SUE Technician  - Raleigh, NC

Description Job Summary:
Responsible for working with managers, engineers, technicians and surveyors to assist in the field designation of underground utilities and development of utility documents for a variety of projects in the water and wastewater, commercial, retail, residential, industrial and transportation markets for private, state, municipal and federal sector clients.

Essential Functions:

  • Assist with document research, field designation, marking and location of existing utility assets
  • Operate standard industry electromagnetic equipment, ground penetrating radar (GPR), vacuum excavation equipment, etc.
  • Assist with the management of SUE equipment inventory and maintenance
  • Stay abreast of technological advancements in the industry

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Perform other duties and responsibilities as required or requested by management.

Machines, Tools and Equipment:

  • Operate standard office equipment (i.e., personal computer, facsimile, copy machine, etc.)

Working Conditions:

  • Work in outdoor environment and various weather conditions 95% of the time.
  • Moderate noise level
  • Travel via automobile regularly
  • Occasional out of town work requiring overnight stays

Position Requirements Education, Training, Experience and Licensing/Certification Requirements:

  • High School diploma or GED.
  • Experience preferred in Subsurface Utility Engineering (SUE) or Utility locating.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Working experience with radio-frequency electromagnetic pipe and cable locators and ground penetrating radar (GPR) systems for designating subsurface utilities is preferred.
  • Knowledge of utility investigation utilizing vacuum excavation equipment is preferred but will train accordingly.
  • Ability to learn quickly, be coachable, and have a positive attitude.

  • Talk, hear, use hands and fingers to handle or feel, stoop, kneel, crouch, reach

This position reports to the Survey Manager, his delegates, and is responsible for operation of various types of survey equipment for field survey efforts. Hours will vary dependent upon workloads and project needs. This position based from our Kennesaw location, but extensive and long term southeastern regional travel will be required. 

The successful candidate will be able to perform assigned tasks with minimal oversight as well as interacting with clients in a professional and courteous manner. Candidates must have prior experience suitable to our needs and be adaptable to emerging technologies. Candidates must be “team minded” with the ability to take direction from others and adapt our standards and procedures. Candidates must be comfortable working outdoors for long periods of time and be able to physically perform work of this nature. 

Candidate will be required to submit to a drug test and background check, provide character / professional references and must have a satisfactory driving record in accordance with the company's driving (MVR) policy

We are looking for a Project Engineer to join our team of CAD Tech, Project Engineers and Project Managers in our Engineering Services group. 

EXPERIENCE:  2 to 10 years

2. CAD Technician - Lumberton, NC 

We are looking for a CAD Technician to join our Engineering Services group.  This candidate will contribute to the team through the production of civil engineering drawings and design calculations for site and land development projects, water main design, sanitary sewer design, water and wastewater treatment plant drawings, GPS data collection and downloads. 

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE:  3 to 5 years

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:  Two-year Associate’s degree in Engineering Technology or AutoCAD drafting.  3-5 years’ land development work, water and sewer experience preferred, entry level considered.  

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:  Experience with AutoCAD, CAD standards and Excel. 

Duties include, but are not limited to:  Development of master plan/infrastructure schematic and detailed technical drawings from sketches.  To assist with the design of water and sewer mains, mass grading, roadway vertical design, erosion control, permit submittals and storm drainage.  Plan/Profile drawings and utility conflict resolution.  Plan production is a critical role of this position. Assist with the creation of utility enabling packages in conjunction with mechanical utilities.  Candidates should be prepared to provide work samples.

We are currently searching for a Project Manager to join our Geomatics Group in our Durham office.  This position will play a key role in project management and execution for survey and construction staking projects. 

Skills & Qualifications:

  • NC Professional Land Surveyors License required.
  • Four-year bachelor's degree or two-year associate's degree in survey related field preferred.
  • Minimum of 3 years’ project management experience, preferably 5 years with mentoring and training experience.
  • Strong technical knowledge in land surveying as well as field experience with surveying subdivisions, commercial properties, institutional and industrial projects.
  • Experience in construction related survey computations and staking plans – such as erosion control, utility, grading and storm drainage and building layout.
  • Experience preparing topo survey, boundary, and ALTA/ACSM survey maps as well as Plats, easement exhibits, researching records, writing legal descriptions and investigating property history; developing scope and fee proposals and managing projects.
  • Must have solid working knowledge of AutoCAD, Carlson, GIS mapping and MS Office Suite
  • MicroStation and NCDOT experience preferred

Responsibilities:
  • Managing multiple projects and ensuring completion on time, task and budget.
  • Coordination of field crews including preparation of field packages.
  • Working closely with the team to resolve issues and meet the overall goals and objectives of the project.
  • Oversee and coordinate the activities of the project team during each phase of the project – including boundary and topographic surveys, subdivision platting, ALTAs, USACE platting, easement platting, GIS mapping and SUE.
  • Read, review and interpret municipality standard utility construction details, grading and storm drainage plans, erosion control plans and sediment pond design tables, utility profile sheets and architectural and structural plans.
  • Process field data and generate/create topographic contours, staking base files, road alignments and foundation surveys.

Survey Crew Chief - Durham, NC
 

We are seeking a Crew Chief to join our Geomatics Group in our Durham/RTP office location.   

Qualifications:
  • Five (5) or more years’ experience as a Crew Chief in construction staking and/or surveying preferred
  • Knowledge of TDS Software, Trimble Robotics, GPS equipment
  • CAD experience preferred
  • Must have a valid NC driver’s license
  Duties include, but are not limited to:
  • Must be able to manage and mentor field personnel to ensure that project objectives are met under budget and in a timely manner
  • Demonstrate an ability to prepare proper filed notes and manage field data files in a manner that they can be easily interpreted and cyphered by office support staff. Turns in notes and field files daily
  • Maintain good client relations to foster and perpetuate a long term relationship
