Instructors:
Dean D. Exline is the founder and President of GeoInnovation, PC, with over 30 years of experience as a licensed land surveyor in multiple states and the US Virgin Islands. His expertise spans boundary, construction staking, GPS, and conventional survey control, along with dam deformation measurements, topographic surveys, hydrographic surveys, coal pile quantity surveys, and power line surveys. Currently serving as President of the North Carolina Society of Surveyors (NCSS), he is also a speaker at surveying conferences and an author of technical papers on robotic surveying and GPS applications. He is a professional member of several surveying societies, including the Professional Land Surveyors of Ohio.
Gary W. Thompson is the Deputy Hazard Mitigation Chief, North Carolina Emergency Management/Hazard Mitigation, and Chief of the North Carolina Geodetic Survey/Hazard Mitigation/NC Emergency Management. He has held a professional license as a Professional Land Surveyor (PLS) in North Carolina since 1980. He has served as president of both the North Carolina Society of Surveyors (NCSS) and the National Society of Professional Surveyors (NSPS). Gary is an emeritus member of the North Carolina Board of Examiners for Engineers and Surveyors (NCBEES) and, as of July 2025, serves as a commission member of the ABET Applied and Natural Science Accreditation Commission (ANSAC).
Eryn Futral, AICP, CFM, CZO; Eastern Branch NFIP Planner (NCEM) began her floodplain administration career with the Town of Wrightsville Beach, NC shortly before graduating with a master’s in Environmental Studies, Coastal Management from the University of North Carolina, Wilmington. She gained 10 years of local experience with Wrightsville Beach and the City of Wilmington, responsible for planning, zoning, CAMA, and floodplain development review and permitting. In April of 2019, she joined NC Emergency Management, Risk Management as the NFIP Eastern Branch Planner.
