Drafting Technician - Charlotte, NC

Summary: The position is based at the Charlotte Mecklenburg Government Center and is responsible for providing technical support to the Survey Manager and Survey Mapping Staff

Major Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Completion of base mapping and plat production for assigned Survey projects
  • Mapping including Plats for acquisition of easement and right of way; Boundary maps for acquisition or sale. Prepare topographical and right of maps from survey data.
  • Conduct research at the Registrar of deeds and online for deeds, maps, resolutions, State highway plans.
  • Assist in map room operations including scanning, internal research, records management, and customer service  
  • Writing legal descriptions for associated mapping
  • Survey computations for traverse and deed closure
  • Field review of mapping projects 

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Extensive experience in AutoCAD Civil 3D
  • Knowledge of the rules of construction for parcel assemblage
    • Knowledge of Charlotte Mecklenburg flood plain mapping
    • Ability to work independently with minimum supervision
    • Strong organizational and time management skills
    • Ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing 
    • Skilled in the research areas for parcel mapping information

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 3-5 years AutoCAD Civil 3D experience or equivalent
  • Associates degree in Survey Technology, Computer Graphics, or similar education and experience
  • Progressive experience and knowledge of survey procedures and calculations of 1- 3 years

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Requires graduation from high school/GED, supplemented by college-level courses in surveying, engineering, computer graphics, or a related field. 1-3 years’ experience in advanced drafting and basic survey design work: proficiency in AutoCAD Civil 3D, good customer service skills, and the ability to work well with others. Requires current driver’s license and a good driving record.

Surveyor/Instrument Operator – Wilmington, NC

Qualifications:  1-2 years of survey or construction staking experience; Valid NC driver’s license. 

Skill Requirements:  experience with TDS data collection preferred.

Duties include, but not limited to: being able to manage and mentor field/office personnel to ensure that project objectives are met under budget and in a timely manner. Summary
Position requires thorough knowledge of land surveying. Responsible for planning and conducting independent work requiring judgment in the evaluation, selection, application and adaptation of surveying techniques, procedures and practices. Responsible for assisting PLS/Owner in all phases of surveying to include; survey crew supervision, marketing and client development, technical quality control, scheduling work, client communications, proposal preparation, negotiating scopes and fees, billing, and client maintenance.  Successful candidate will have the desire, and develop the ability, to manage multiple survey crews, on various sized projects simultaneously.  He will be expected to perform and supervise all facets of running a small surveying business including office and field personnel.  He will responsible to perform projects using relevant office software, modeling software, CADD technologies, GPS equipment and processing in the performance of project controls, conventional route and location surveys, boundary, topographic, construction, and aerial surveys (UAV). 

Position Requirements 

  • North Carolina Professional Land Surveyor or S.I.T. within 1 year of obtaining licensure.
  • NC/SC driver's license w/ responsible history.
  • Proven performance of property boundary research, computations, and platting.
  • Strong understanding of GNSS and modern surveying technologies.
  • Strong technical skill set, including Auto-Cad/Civil 3-D/Carlson
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office application suite including MS Word and MS Excel
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Duties:

  • Experience with AutoCAD2010 or higher is required; knowledge/experience in Carlson Civil/Surveying software; Microsoft Office & Adobe software are preferred. Proficiency in AutoCAD Civil 3D or Land Development Desktop will be considered.
  • Associates degree or higher in surveying technology/drafting/design in preferred
