A Registered Professional Land Surveyor (RPLS) licensed or certified in the State of North Carolina to conduct boundary surveys of real estate property for purchase with federal funds. Boundary Surveyor responsibilities include:

  • Completes all required training and maintains current North Carolina certification(s) and includes a copy as an appendix to the boundary survey report.
  • Performing boundary surveys in compliance with all applicable rules, laws, and regulations pertaining to boundary surveys. Boundary surveyor certifications must be current at the time the boundary survey is conducted. A copy of the current North Carolina certification(s) and/or license(s) must be included as an appendix to the boundary survey.
  • Researching previous survey evidence, maps, deeds, physical evidence, and other records to obtain data needed for surveys
  • Preparing and managing preparation of project deliverables including certified professional reports and maps in hard copy and digital format prepared in accordance with statutory and standardized procedures
  • Performing and managing project computations in accordance with statutory and standardized procedures
  • Placing of monuments/ staking of property boundaries, as appropriate, to clearly identify the property boundaries.
  • Preparation of reports that fully explain survey results for use by a Residential Appraiser and outline of methods used.
  • Documenting of procedures and backup data
  • Keeping abreast with all current regulations, standards and best practices
  • Management of project field activities
  • Management of project related research and reconnaissance

Requirements of Position

  • NC Professional Land Surveyor
  • Proven working experience as an RPLS in North Carolina
  • Comprehensive grasp of survey field data processing
  • Working knowledge and familiarity of AutoCAD Civil 3D and MicroStation, or similar software
  • Proven performance of property boundary research, computations, and platting
  • Experience researching record-of-surveys and locating monuments
  • Familiarity with all current industry’s regulations, rules and standards
  • Strong analytical and research skills
  • Excellent writing and communication skills
  • Licensed or certified appraised

Managerial position to assist with operations and communication between office and field personnel, as well as assist Project Managers with overall project scope. 

Essential Functions + Responsibilities

  • Advanced level survey CAD Technician duties such as creating surfaces, managing coordinate files, deed plotting and orienting, etc.
  • Deed research.
  • Creating field instructions and exhibits for the field crews. As well as providing real time support to the field crews.
  • Reviewing daily field data to help control scope.
  • Preliminary involvement of ALTA surveys.
  • Communicate with survey Project Managers regarding projects, staff concerns, equipment needs, safety issues, etc.
  • Communicate with Project Managers from other departments about projects. 

Qualifications

  • 5 years office experience
  • Previous field experience as a party chief
