REQUIREMENTS FOR POSITION

Primary responsibilities include (but not limited to) the following:

  • The Crew Chief is the individual that represents the company in the field. The Party Chief is responsible for making sure that the crew and equipment are ready for the next assignment.
  • The Crew Chief must ensure that the work is performed to company standards and that the results are presented in a clear and concise format
  • The Crew Chief is responsible to lead the field effort for various surveying tasks including; construction, topographic, boundary, right-of-way, and control survey projects
  • Assign and monitor work, and provide input for evaluation of field survey crew members
  • Instruct and train crew members in survey methods, use of equipment, and field safety procedures
  • Gather field survey data through use of conventional and Global Positioning System (GPS) methods
  • Set up, adjust, and operate surveying equipment, including electronic total station, data collector, and GPS equipment, in order to measure distances, elevations, and angles
  • Prepare field notes and drawings
  • Perform field surveying for roadway, bridges, and flood control projects, including installing surveying construction stakes, tying out existing intersection ties, and locating or establishing vertical and horizontal control, right of way, monuments, corners, boundaries, and property lines

Requirements of position:

  • High School and/or specialized training from a vocational or technical school
  • Good written communication and handwriting with the ability to take all types of notes in the required manner, manage, and organize field crew
  • Ability to calculate basic math as required for the work and utilize calculators and other computational devices
  • Ability to carry and lift equipment as needed on project
  • Ability to cut and/or clear brush while establishing survey lines (machete use)
  • Knowledge of equipment and ability to set up for various types for different work situations
  • Ability to hold and proficiently use all measuring devices

Your Opportunity

We are looking for a Survey Manager to help our growing Wilmington, NC market.  You are familiar with boundary survey principles and Record Maps, Surveys and ALTAs. You are self-motivated and have the ability to work independently and/or supervise a field crew to collect data utilizing GPS/GNSS and conventional survey techniques as well as perform data reduction and drafting of the final survey product.

You will ensure the preparation of accurate, complete and value-added survey work products to consistently meet clients’ project goals. Upon signing and sealing, surveyors take full professional responsibility for that work. REQUIRED EXPERIENCE:  3 to 5 years

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:  Two-year Associate’s degree in Engineering Technology or AutoCAD drafting.  3-5 years’ land development work, water and sewer experience preferred, entry level considered.  

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:  Experience with AutoCAD, CAD standards and Excel. 

Duties include, but are not limited to:  Development of master plan/infrastructure schematic and detailed technical drawings from sketches.  To assist with the design of water and sewer mains, mass grading, roadway vertical design, erosion control, permit submittals and storm drainage.  Plan/Profile drawings and utility conflict resolution.  Plan production is a critical role of this position. Assist with the creation of utility enabling packages in conjunction with mechanical utilities.  Candidates should be prepared to provide work samples.

Skills & Qualifications:

  • NC Professional Land Surveyors License required.

  • Minimum of 3 years’ project management experience, preferably 5 years with mentoring and training experience.
